"We know we'd just
be dumping the problem on Nutley, but quite frankly
that's their problem." The speaker shall remain
anonymous, but these were the sentiments expressed at
a recent gathering of Forest Row Parish Councillors
With the prospect of
finding themselves downstream of a 25% increase from
the traffic outfall of a new EG Relief Road, this was
spoken in the context of a 20th century "we're
alright jack" Forest Row Bypass solution being
discussed by the old guard.
The proposition wouldn't
be so foolish if it wasn't' fundamentally flawed in
it's own right. Even if ESCC were able to find a way
of financing such an expensive, and legally, technically
and environmentally challenging development, it would
prove to be a disaster for everyone in the long term.
Any relief in Felbridge
and Forest Row would be short lived, and the additional
through traffic attracted to this new route would soon
amount to an even bigger jam at Wych Cross, tailing
back down the hill into the Wier Wood vally throughout
peak flow, and for much of the day..
The only rational response
to Mid Sussex District Council's completely unsustainable
Area Action Plan, is to echo the sentiment of the East
Grinstead Post Referendum Campaign, and "Just Say
No".
