More than 70 local residents
enjoyed a Sunday morning walk through the Weirwood Valley
to the north and west of Forest Row on Sunday 11th June,
seeing first hand the engineering challenges and the
terrible loss to future generations that would be involved
if any of the proposed bypass route were to go ahead.
Firstly the
group stopped at the point on the Forest Way where route
3B would pass over the cycle path. This is where a bridge
would have to be built to carry cars and lorries over
the cyclists, who's path would dip down underneath the
road.
Later the group
stopped by a babbling brook that passes through the
lowest part of the flood plain, and reflected for a
moment on the peace and tranquility that would be forever
shattered by a 2 metre high embankment that would be
required to carry route 3C or PC across the flood plain,
with many expensive drainage structures underneath it.
The elevated level of the road at this point would amplify
the road roar, that would echo down the valley to Forest
Row.
Finally, the group gathered at the point where the
controversial Forest Row Parish Council Route (PC) would
turn up the valley to enter into a deep cutting next
to Greenfields School, before passing over a 20m high
embankment accross the Michael Hall Valley Field to
rejoin the existing A22.
